Sudan: July 27, 2003

Five men handed over by Malawi to the United States in June and taken to Guantanamo Bay were released in Sudan on the 24th, after being cleared of suspicion that they belong to the al Qaeda network. No one was able to say when US authorities had handed the men over to the Sudanese (which is still on the US' list of 'bad' countries), or why they weren't returned directly to Malawi. Upon returning home, Turkish police promptly took the two Turkish ex-suspects into custody for a chat. - Adam Geibel
