The ceasefire between the government and the SPLA has been extended two months (to the end of November). Both sides feel they are close to working out a deal that both the Moslem north and non-Moslem south can live with. A major point of contention is how many army troops will remain in the south. Currently there are about 80,000 of them and they guard the oil wells, which are in the south.
