Chad: April 16, 2001

The unrest brought about by the various rebellions is having ill effects in neighboring countries. Recently, nomads from Chad have been raiding into the Central African Republic. There has long been strife between the Chad nomads and farmers in neighboring countries. The drought conditions in Chad frequently send nomads into nearby farmlands for loot and water. Recent raids saw some of the nomads armed with AK-47s, in addition to the traditional bows and arrows. The years of rebellion have flooded the region with cheap AK-47s, and have made raiding more lethal.
