Government troops cornered and fought with a large group of armed Islamic radicals who had entered the country from Niger. After two days of fighting, 43 Islamic radicals were killed (including nine Algerians, plus others from Niger, Nigeria and Mali.) Five of the Islamic radicals were captured, including one Chadian. Several trucks, some equipped with machine-guns, were captured, as well as other weapons and satellite phones. An unknown number of the  Islamic radicals escaped and are being tracked and pursued. The army lost three dead and 18 wounded.
