Taiwanese officials have publicly called for a resumption of trade talks with China. These regular discussions were broken off in the last few months because of public discussion in Taiwan over the possibility of Taiwan declaring independence. These talks are used as a conduit for proposals on how to deal with Taiwan's future status.
