China: April 27, 2000

The US military is increasingly concerned over the technology links between Russia and China, which are greater than ever before. The Russians have just sold the Chinese a stockpile of the extremely dangerous SSN-22 Sunburn supersonic anti-ship missiles, a weapon that the US Navy doesn't even want to think about. The Navy is planning to buy its own stockpile of Sunburns and use them as targets to develop new defenses. It already uses the Ma31, the air-launched version of Sunburn, for just this purpose.--Stephen V Cole
