China: April 11, 2003


Chinese generals, watching the campaign in Iraq, are dismayed. Once more, high tech and highly trained American troops rolled right over an army trained and equipped like the Chinese army. Meanwhile, Taiwan takes heart because the US was willing to defy world opinion and do what it thought was the right thing. Taiwan sees this as being the situation during any future attempt by China to take Taiwan by force. America has pledged to come to Taiwan's aid, and the more likely that is to actually happen, and with decisive effect, the less likely the Chinese are to attempt such a move.
