The FARC attacks ran into government troops who were well prepared. A rebel offensive in July killed over 300 people, and the generals suspected the guerillas would try it again. Guerilla losses have been heavy. A lot of the guerilla dead were a result of aggressive government use of warplanes. In one case, a convoy of rebel trucks, crammed with guerillas, were caught on a road and bombed. Several dozen guerillas were killed in that one attack.
