Colombia: January 21, 2001


Troops raided a FARC camp near the Venezuelan border and rescued five captive police officers. Two other police hostages were shot by the rebels. Some 95 rebels were captured, most of them teenagers. The policemen had been held captive for 18 months. Rebels hold some 500 police and soldiers captive.
