Fighting in the northeast left at least twenty dead (eight FARC rebels, seven AUC militiamen and five civilians.) The Catholic church announced that FARC was demanding a $500,000 ransom for a kidnapped priest. People living along the Ecuador border report that government troops have essentially abandoned the area, leaving it to feuding left and right wing groups.
