Colombia: May 6, 2001


Police arrested another AUC militia leader. This is the fourth AUC leader arrested in the past week. Meanwhile, Venezuela would allow wounded leftist rebels to enter Venezuela so that they could go to Cuba for medical treatment. The 2,200 kilometer Venezuelan border with Colombia is regularly crossed by leftist and AUC fighters. Venezuela does not have the military manpower to seal the border and generally leaves the armed Colombians alone.
