A capitol prison was the scene of a bloody battle between left and right wing rebels, drug gang member and prisoners who wanted no part of a FARC plan to stage a mass escape. Weapons smuggled into the prison were used. Rightist rebels joined to fight the escape plot. At least ten prisoners were killed before 2,000 police and troops went in stop the fighting.
