President Uribe has demanded that the FARC, ELN and AUC rebels either negotiate a peace deal with the government, or be destroyed. Uribe has the backing of most of the population on this approach, so it appears that there will be more fighting as only the AUC has expressed any desire to negotiate. 

Rebel violence around the country left at least twelve dead. Rebel related violence left about 3,500 dead last year, with another 3,000 kidnapped for ransom.
