The two leftist rebel groups, the ELN (about 4,000 fighters) and the FARC (about 16,000 fighters) have been cooperating a lot in the last year against rightist militias and government forces. The two leftist organizations now say they are discussing a more permanent form of cooperation. In other words, a merger.
