 The killings of ten hostages by FARC rebels appalled the public, making the rebels even bigger villains than they already are. The rebels are feeling the effects of these public relations disasters. Recruiting is more difficult, people are less willing to assist rebel operations, and are increasingly aiding the government in hunting down rebel camps.
