 One of several rebel groups in southern Colombia killed a government official 200 kilometers south of the capital. 

Near the Venezuelan border, troops captured 37 AUC rebels who were preparing to do battle with local FARC fighters.

Attacks continue against oil pipelines, further injuring the economy.
