Leftist rebel continue their intimidation and assassination campaign against majors who will not cooperate with them. The government has deployed thousands of soldiers and police to provide bodyguards for the mayors. Many towns have no mayors, there being no one willing to take such a dangerous job. This campaign has made the leftist rebels more unpopular, but the rebels don't seem to care.
