Colombia: August 3, 2003

Another mayor has been murdered by FARC rebels, who are still threatening to kill all mayors who do not cooperate with the rebels. The government has increased security for mayors. Last year, the rebels killed twelve mayors. So far this year, they have killed three.  The rebels have lost a lot of popular support with their murder campaign against the mayors, but apparently the rebels don't care. The left wing rebels have abandoned their revolutionary ideals and are now basically in it for the money.
