India-Pakistan: January 21, 2001


Police in southwest Pakistan arrested five tribesmen and a quantity of weapons. The men are suspects in the series of bombings in the area. The tribal chief is in jail on other charges. The bombings were apparently part of a tribal vendetta against the government for jailing the chief and other tribal members. Meanwhile, rebel violence in Kashmir left a dozen dead and some fifty wounded.
