Pakistan's ISI (sort of a combined FBI, CIA and military intelligence organization) gave a rare press conference to correct misperceptions by the Western media. Outside of Pakistan, there have been many stories criticizing ISI about how it goes after al Qaeda and Taliban inside Pakistan. The ISI pointed out that it had captured over 400 senior al Qaeda and Taliban members and turned most of them over to the US. But Western media continue to report that most of this is really the American FBI and US Army Special Forces doing the work. ISI denied this, and said the Americans supplied electronic intelligence information and went along on some of the arrests.

In northwestern Pakistan, ISI agents arrested five al Qaeda suspects.
