  In south India, police killed a Maoist rebel leader and four of his followers. The dead man, Ramakrishna,  was a leader of the PWG (People's War Group) and had a price of $21,000 on his head. In three decades of PWG violence, some 10,000 people have died. 

Rebel violence in Kashmir left six dead.
