India-Pakistan: December 25, 2003

Another assassination attempt was made on Pakistani president Musharraf. Two pickup trucks, each carrying fifty pound bombs, tried to force their way into the convoy he was traveling with. Musharraf was not injured, but 14 other people were killed and 46 wounded. Like the December 14th attack, this one took place in an area under tight security. This indicates that whoever is out to get him, can get close no matter where he is.

Fighting has broken out along the Bhutan border. The Bhutanese army has been attacking Indian rebel (Assam separatists) camps in its territory, and over 2,000 of the 3,000 rebels believed to be in those camps have fled either deeper into Bhutanese territory, or across the border into India. Today, Indian troops fought with some of these rebels and killed five of them. In Bhutan, over 500 of these rebels have been arrested and nearly 200 killed. Many more have been wounded.
