India-Pakistan: December 19, 2004


 The Pakistani government minister who announced that there is a problem with sexual abuse of children at religious schools, have been provided with bodyguard. The religious establishment denied the charges, and many Islamic conservatives threatened violence if the government did not back down. So far, the government has not retracted the charges, which are actually common knowledge. In the past, the government was reluctant to raise the issue for fear of the backlash from the religious community.
