In Bangladesh, Islamic vigilantes clashed with police, leaving three dead and at least fifty wounded. The Islamic vigilantes got organized last April, to oppose the growing strength of Maoist rebels along the Indian border. Some 22 people have died from vigilante violence since then. Many local villagers support the Maoists, but a number of more religious people do not.
