In eastern Pakistan, in the Waziristan region along the Afghan border, a tribesman shot a soldier who demanded that the tribesman's rifle be checked before the man entered a village. The many army checkpoints in the area, and new rules about carrying weapons openly in some areas, are not popular with many tribesmen.
