Several hundred troop reinforcements arrived in Ambon. Four days of rioting has left at least 29 dead.

August 11; Aceh separatists have refused to negotiate with the government.

August 10; Rioting has resumed in Ambon, killing a two dozen or more. Eighty or more people are though to have died in these riots since July 15th.

August 8; A journalist from a nearby province was found murdered, hacked to death, in Aceh province.
