Indonesia: June 21, 2000


In the Malukus, troops fired on a Christian mob attempting to attack a Moslem village in retaliation for earlier attacks on Christians. Most of the troops are Moslem and they have been reluctant to fire on Moslems. In the last week, 154 Christians have been killed and over 230 injured in Moslem attacks. In Central Sulawesi, the army is questioning 28 soldiers suspected of taking sides in the religious conflicts there.
