The senior Moslem authority in the country is investigating complaints from parents and students that a religious boarding school in West Java is teaching militant doctrine. The fear is that the school has come under the control of Islamic militants who want to turn Indonesia into an Islamic state. Meanwhile, the defense minister has assured the United States that Indonesia is committed to the war on terrorism (even though the government is reluctant to crack down on local Islamic militants.)
