The US closed it's embassy, and other diplomatic facilities, in response to intelligence reports of threatened attacks. There have been many open, and insinuated, threats to Americans by Islamic radicals, but so far it's been all bark and no bite. Local Islamic militants prefer to battle with local Christians.
