The growing number of ceasefire violations in Aceh has caused the army to threaten a military offensive if the rebels do meet and work out problems. But many of the ceasefire violations appear to be the result of army operations. The government and the rebels have still not agreed on how to deal with the rebel demand for eventual independence. In the past week, 31 have died from rebel related violence. The rebels refuse to meet in Aceh, and insist on meetings in a foreign nation.
