Military operations in Aceh have left 485 rebels dead, 1,029 captured or surrendered and 3.500 unaccounted for (out of an estimated 5,000 armed rebels.) Only 223 rebel weapons have been captured. But only 45 soldiers and policemen have been killed during the two month operation. The army is also cracking down on troops who abuse civilians. Today three soldiers, who had served in Aceh, were sentenced to long prison sentences for rape.
