Kurds and Sunni Arabs in Mosul and Kirkuk are still fighting a low level war with each other. Kurds returning and taking their homes and farms back from Sunni Arabs brought in by Saddam is causing ongoing strife. American peacekeepers have prevented open warfare, but there continue to be cases of gunfire and grenade attacks.
