President Bush's threat to act against terrorist training camps if the countries harboring them do not act, did not go over well in the Philippines. Local politicians made indignant statements about what they saw as threats to their sovereignty. The Philippines has been mentioned as a possible location for existing or new al Qaeda camps. A recent poll showed that 84 percent of Filipinos approve of American assistance in fighting Abu Sayyaf and other terrorist groups.
