 On Jolo, the military gave local civilian leaders five days to try and negotiate with Abu Sayyaf to release their captives. It is believed that there are some 150 Abu Sayyaf on Jolo, about a third of which had fled the military operations against them on nearby Basilan island. The government is moving 6,000 troops into Jolo.
