Fiji plans to move its 600-man peacekeeping battalion from Lebanon to Timor after an Israeli withdrawal from Lebanon. The battalion forms a quarter of the Fijian Army; troops rotate between it and home-based units. In an unrelated event, the Fijian Army issued a special announcement on 10 April saying it would have no part in any coup attempt against the government elected last May. That government marked a return to democracy after the 1987 military coup.--Stephen V Cole
