Intense fighting took place in central Grozny, especially around the main hospital. Taking the hospital would allow the Russians to fire straight down the main boulevard in the city, thus making it more difficult for the Chechen rebels to move around. But the Chechens are using snipers, mines and mobility to make it very difficult for the Russians to advance, or to advance without taking too many casualties.
