The last rebel held village in Chechnya has been taken by Russian troops. Shatoi is in the Argun gorge, a low lying pass from the valleys that contain Grozny, deep into the mountains of southern Chechnya. The gorge, and another like it, provide easy access to Grozny and northern Chechnya.  Some two thousand rebels held Shatoi, but most escaped and are being sought by Russian troops. In Dagestan, another car bombing was reported, with only the driver of the car being killed.
