The March 29th ambush of Russian policeman apparently was avoidable. Russian army radio intercept troops overheard rebel radio messages setting up the ambush. But because the army and Interior Ministry (which controls police and paramilitary troops) do not coordinate they operations closely, the two truck loads of police road into the ambush and nearly all were killed or captured (and later killed.)
