 The government announced that more troops would be sent to Tajikistan, where 19,000 Russian troops are already stationed. Some 11,000 of these troops help guard the Tajik border with Afghanistan. The growing quantity of drugs crossing then border are causing more and more problems in Russia as most of the dope moves on to Western Europe.
