The fighting in Chechnya is increasingly a civil war, with Chechens fighting Chechens. Most Chechens have always wanted peace more than independence from Russia. But warlords, criminal gangs and Islamic radical groups all have an interest in an independent Chechnya, and all are willing to fight for it.
