: The SPLA claimed it had launched a major raid on central Sudanese oilfields. AFP quoted an SPLA spokesman as saying: "A special unit from the SPLA managed to attack the nerve system of the oil production in the Unity province at Higlieg town." (A subsequent report said the attack occurred on August 5.) A Khartoum government spokesman said the attack was beaten off. A spoeksman for Canadas Talisman Energy said that the SPLA attack failed to do any major damage. The oil company said there were no injuries to staff or security personnel. (Talisman is a partner in Sudans Greater Nile Petroleum Operating Company consortium.) The Sudanese government said that no production facilities were damaged.
