How bad is AIDs in central Africa? The US Information Service now estimates that Uganda alone has has 1.5 million people carrying HIV, and "more than 100,000" AIDs cases. Uganda has 1.7 million "AIDs orphans" --children who have lost their parents to the epidemic. Oddly, several health organizations say Uganda has had success in curtailing a rise in HIV infections. One report says that "prevalence rates" have been cut in half over the last seven years.
