Air Defense: Is There Anything AESA Cannot Do

November 29, 2014: Since 2000 a very interesting, useful and lifesaving aspect of modern radars has been discovered. These radars, usually electronically scanned array (AESA) 3-D models, because of their precision and range proved to be excellent at providing early warning of a rocket attack. After 2000 the use of these Russia designed rockets against civilians and military bases became more common (especially in Israel, Afghanistan, Iraq and elsewhere in the Middle East. The radars gave 10-20 seconds warning and if hooked to an alarm system provided people in the target area with sufficient time to duck indoors, in a trench or simply lie flat. This sort of thing reduced casualties from the attacks by more than 90 percent.
