Racal Defense Electronics has completed the installation of VSC-501 satellite communications systems in 18 vehicles for the British Ministry of Defense. The Army will get their satellite telephone stations in land rovers while the Royal Marines will have to make do with Swedish BV206 tracked vehicles. The systems provide extensive multi-channel voice and data communications capabilities to deployed commanders, and can relay messages to other ground maneuvering headquarters and from those headquarters back to the satellite network. --Stephen V Cole
