Blohm & Voss has completed the installation of Europe's first APAR (Active Phased Array Radar, the European attempt to copy Aegis) on the air defense frigate FGS-124 Sachsen. The second such radar was installed on the Dutch frigate De Zeven Provincien by KSG at the Vlissingen shipyard. APAR is an I-band radar able to simultaneous detect, track, and guide weapons to multiple targets. These ships will also carry the SMART-L 3d D-band volume search which can track 1,000 targets within 400km.--Stephen V Cole
