Russia launched three more Glonass navigation satellites on 13 October. These are the Russian version of the US GPS system. The original Russian plan was for 24 satellites, but this number was never reached due to budget problems after the Soviet collapse, and had fallen to eight that were still working. The new launch brings the total to 11, the minimum to allow the system to function.--Stephen V Cole
