Despite continued attacks, the Islamic radical rebels have lost their ability to instill widespread fear. The few hundred rebels still at large are seen as criminals, not supporters of the popular will against an oppressive government. The government is still seen as oppressive and inept, but the Islamic militants are no longer seen as the solution. Upcoming elections are supposed to be fair and the results are to be respected by the current government (which is, basically, a military dictatorship.)
