The presidential election resulted in current president  Abdelaziz Bouteflika was reelected with 83 percent of the vote (58 percent of eligible voters turned out.) Bouteflika got re-elected because he is generally regarded as responsible for winning a war against Islamic radicals which has, in the last dozen years, killed over 100,000 people (in a country of 32 million).
