In the last four days, police in eastern Algeria have killed seven rebels. There are several groups of GSPC rebels (totaling about 150 men) operating in the area, and are still killing police and civilians. So far this month, police and troops have killed about 40 rebels, while 20 civilians and security personnel have died. In central Algeria, there are another 180 GSPC rebels operating, and fewer than a hundred in the far south, near the border areas.
