A group of about 30 GSPC rebels set fire to a youth center 50 kilometers east of the capital, then ambushed soldiers and police who came down the coast road. Five soldiers and two policemen were killed. The rebels were chased back into the hills. If past experience is any guide, this group of rebels will be hunted down and all of them killed or captured.
